PHILIPPINES - TYPHOON KURING
UNDRO INFORMATION REPORT NO. 1
26 JUNE 1985

AAA) TYPHOON 'KURING' WHICH HIT LUZON AND SURROUNDING AREAS, NAMELY ILOCOS SUR, ILOCOS NORTE, BENGUET, NUEVA ECIJA, BATAAN, ZAMBALES, VIGAN, BANTAY, SAN ESTEBAN, LAOAG, BAGUIO CITY, PAMPANGA, CAUSED DEATHS AND INFRASTRUCTURE DAMAGE.

BBB) FOLLOWING REPORTED BY UNDRO RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE: 11 DEATHS, OVER 500 HOUSES TOTALLY DESTROYED AND MANY DAMAGED ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO BRIDGES, ROADS, ELECTRICAL POWER LINES, AND BUILDINGS.

CCC) OVER 600 FAMILIES (3,719 PERSONS) AFFECTED OF WHICH A TOTAL OF 194 FAMILIES (2,901 PERSONS) HOMELESS.

DDD) ESTIMATED COST OF DAMAGE (CROPS AND INFRASTRUCTURE: PESOS 41,373,820 (US DLRS 2,477,474).

EEE) TO DATE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT REQUESTED INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE.

AAA) FURTHER TO UNDRO INFORMATION REPORT NO.1 ON TYPHOON 'KURING' ISSUED ON 26 JUNE 1985, THE SAME REGIONS (LUZON AND SURROUNDING AREAS) WERE HIT BY ANOTHER TYPHOON, 'DALING' ON 30 JUNE 1985. FURTHERMORE HEAVY MONSOON RAINS CONTINUED TO CAUSE FLOODING AND LANDSLIDES.

BBB) OVER 100 PERSONS ARE REPORTED AS HAVING DIED AND APPROXIMATELY 420,000 PERSONS AFFECTED. HUNDREDS WERE MADE HOMELESS AND THOUSANDS OF HOMES PARTIALLY DAMAGED ALONG WITH DAMAGE TO INFRASTRUCTURE INCLUDING AGRICULTURE, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PROPERTIES AND LIVESTOCK.

CCC) RELIEF ASSISTANCE IS BEING PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNMENT AND NO REQUEST FOR INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE HAS SO FAR BEEN RECEIVED.
