Highlights

  • Category 5 Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is moving at a speed of 33 kilometres per hour towards Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) with a total population of 4.1 million people.

  • Haiyan is projected to make landfall in Guiuan, Eastern Samar or Abuyog, Leyte province in the morning of 8 November.

  • Government has recommended pre-emptive evacuations for residents in low lying, mountainous and coastal areas in anticipation of possible flash floods, landslides and storm surges as a result of the typhoon.
