A series of earthquakes that occurred between 16 and 31 October in Tulunan, North Cotabato has caused 21 deaths, over 400 people injured and significant damage to homes, schools and health facilities. According to reports by NDRRMC and DROMIC that more than 231,000 people are affected, with over 36,000 in 32 evacuation centres, while more than 7,500 people are with host families. More than 1,000 schools are reported damaged and has hampered education of over 3.3 million of learners. The Department of Education announced that it would take more a year to rebuild structures which could withstand tremors and typhoons. The number of casualties, displaced people and damaged infrastructure are expected to increase as debris clearing progresses and isolated areas are reached.
