Philippines, Taiwan, China - Tropical cyclone DOKSURI, update (DG ECHO, GDACS, CMA - China Meteorological Administration, PAGASA, NDRRMC, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 31 July 2023)

  • The remnants of tropical cyclone DOKSURI reached Beijing City after it made landfall on 28 July over Fujian Province where more than 354,000 people living in the coastal area have been evacuated and 880,000 affected.

  • Following heavy rainfall and strong winds in the capital of China, more than 30,000 people have been displaced as well as another 20,000 in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province.

  • In the Philippines, the passage of DOKSURI on 25-26 July resulted in at least 25 fatalities, 20 missing people, 52 injured, almost 313,000 displaced and a total of approximately 2,400,000 affected people.

  • DG ECHO has allocated EUR 500,000 in immediate relief assistance to provide shelter assistance with water and sanitation services to most vulnerable families in northern Luzon.

  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain is forecast over Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, and eastern Shanxi in eastern China. All are under red warnings for rainstorms. Moderate rainfall with scattered thunderstorms is expected over most parts of the northern Philippines where extreme flood advisories are in effect.
