Philippines - Severe weather and floods, update (DROMIC DSWD, PAGASA) (ECHO Daily Flash of 26 May 2025)

  • Since 14 May, the southern and western regions of Mindanao island, Eastern Visayas region, and Palawan province in Mimaropa region have been experiencing severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds, due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). These conditions have resulted in flooding and flash flooding, leading to displacement and damage.
  • As of 26 May, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD DROMIC) reported that 11,453 individuals have been displaced, with 4,836 seeking shelter in 13 evacuation centres. A total of 176,962 people have been affected by the flooding.
  • Over the next 48 hours, forecasts indicate that the affected areas will continue to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, prompting flood warnings for two locations in Mindanao.
