Philippines - Severe weather and floods, update (DROMIC DSWD, NDRRMC, PAGASA) (ECHO Daily Flash of 27 May 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds, due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continue to affect the southern and western Mindanao island, resulting in flooding that has caused casualties and damage.
  • As of 25 May, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported a total of six fatalities, three in Sultan Kudarat, and one in Cotabato, Sarangani and Zamboanga del Sur regions, and four injured people. According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD DROMIC), as of 26 May, at least 177,563 people have been affected across five regions, including a total of 11,453 displaced people, of whom 4,836 seeking shelter in 13 evacuation centres.
  • Over the next 48 hours, thunderstorms and isolated showers are expected over the southern Philippines.
