I. SITUATION OVERVIEW

For the past 24 hours, seismic observation at Bulusan Volcano (12=B046.2'N, 124=B003'E) revealed the occurrence of one (1) volcan ic earthquake. Steaming activity from the crater and known thermal vents was not observed due to thick clouds that covered the upper slope of the volcano during the past observation period. No other significant volcanic activity was observed since the 212 February 2011 ash explosion.

Bulusan Volcano's status remains at ALERT LEVEL 1. This means that the source of activity is hydrothermal and shallow.

1. The public is strongly advised not to venture inside the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) because the area is at risk to sudden steam and ash explosions.

2. Due to the prevailing wind direction, residents located in the northwest and southwest sectors of the volcano are reminded to take precautions against ashfalls.

3. Civil aviation authorities must also warn pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano's summit as ejected ash and volcanic fragments from sudden explosions may pose hazards to aircrafts. If possible aircraft should avoid flying on the western side of the volcano as volcanic debris are likely to be carried in this directions by the prevailing winds.

4. Furthermore, residents near valleys and river/stream channels should be vigilant against sediment-laden stream flows and lahars in the event of heavy and prolonged rainfall.
