I. Weather Update
A. Weather Forecast as of 5:00AM 05 May 2009
At 2:00 AM today, 05 May 2009. TY "Dante" was located based on satellite and surface data at 840 kms east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora (17.1=B0N,131.0=B0E) with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is forecast to move east northeast at 22 kph.
II. Overview of the Effects
Region V was first affected by landslides and floodings caused by heavy rains earlier brought about by TD Crising. With the passage of TD Dante in the region, the damages incurred by TD Crising were aggravated by the effects of TD Dante.
Initial assessment of DA5, DPWH5 and DOH5 placed the estimated cost of damages to agriculture and infrastructure in Region V at Php191.209 Million. For the casualties, the Province of Sorsogon still has the most number of deaths with 20.
A. Effects
1. Areas Affected and Total Population Affected/ Displaced (Tab A)
a) There were 43,215 families or 236,887 persons affected by TY "Dante" in 220 barangays of 45 municipalities and 3 cities in 5 provinces of Region V.
b) A total of 174 evacuation centers are currently accommodating 9,480 families or 54,308 persons affected while others are staying with their friends and relatives.
Note: The increase in number of affected population as well as the affected population inside evacuation centers is due to the inclusion of other affected municipalities particularly in Camarines Sur.
2. Casualties (Tab E3)
a) Of the 25 reported deaths, Camarines Norte has 2; Camarines Sur, 2; Catanduanes, 1; Sorsogon, 20 including four (4) unidentified recovered bodies.
b) Three (3) are still missing.
