I. SITUATION OVERVIEW

A. Weather Update

- Typhoon Kiko has gained more strength as it continues to threaten Taiwan. At 10:00 AM today, 7 August 2009, the center of Typhoon "Kiko" was located at 350 km North Northeast of Basco, Batanes (23. 8=B0N, 122.6=B0E) with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph and moving West Northwest at 15 kph

- Typhoon Kiko is expected to be at 370 km north of Basco, Batanes or in the vicinity of Eastern Taiwan tonight and at 540 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes or over Southeastern China by tomorrow morning

- Meanwhile, a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 1,590 kms East of Northern Luzon (19.6=B0N, 140.0=B0E)

- Typhoon "KIKO" will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and bring occasional rains over Luzon and Western Visayas

- Residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures against possible flashfloods and landslides
