IV. REGIONAL /LOCAL UPDATES/RESPONSE

Update re Itogon, Benguet Landslide in CAR

Summary of Assistance

- PHILEX Mines provided Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), gas detection, blasting cord, 25 sets miner lamps and team to cover leaks of the underground twin diversion drainage tunnel to prevent further erosion

- OCD-CAR procured the requirements of Navy SWAG team such as: light sticks, head lamps, fan belt of the air compressor, energy drink and food provision

- PDCC Benguet provided vegetables for affected families, rescuers and miners and additional supply of medicines. Also provided cash assistance and back hoe to undertake the engineering works to divert the river flow at Sitio Luneta

- Benguet Mining Corporation, Philex Mining Corporation, PMA-DRTG and the Association of Private Miners assisted in the conduct of SAR operations

- Itogon Mayor Gudio and MGB convened to finalize identification of areas that will be utilized as relocation sites. The Barangay Captains were tasked to identify at least three (3) areas.

- PNRC Benguet provided 100 pieces food packs, blankets, 100 pieces mats and medicines

- DOH-CAR provided medicines, IV fluids, cadaver bags, masks, family food packs and technical assistance

Status of Retrieval Operations

- A total of nine (9) victims were rescued for three (3) consecutive days and Identified as Ngitit Pagulayan and Jose Panio Jr. on Sept 29 at 3:30 PM; Gerry Monyobda Sept 29 at 11:30 AM; Jeyson Himmayod 30 Sept at 8:10 AM; Rubert Buhway on Sept 30 at 9:20 AM; Gerry Ganu on Sept 30 at 10:15 AM; Gilbert Nattem and Mario Annayasan on October 1 at 2:20 PM and Rudy Boling Jr. was rescued at 2:45PM. All the victims were given first aid treatment and were later brought to Baguio City General Hospital Medical Center (BCGHMC)

- The two (2) dead bodies retrieved were identified as Jojo Himmayod of Nagtipunan Quirino on 25 Sept 5:30 PM and Vincent Himmayod of Nagtipunan, Quirino on 26 Sept.4:30 PM. The bodies were claimed by relatives and transported to Ifugao

- Another two (2) bodies were recovered at around 8:30 PM, bodies retrieved were identified as Juan Himmayod and Rudy Himmayod.

Region IV-B

- Ipil Bridge (45.72 meters length washed-out/eroded concrete pavement and abutment approach "A" and "B") and Pili Bridge (25 meters length washed-out bridge approach and collapsed abutment "B" with 21 meters tilted, eroded concrete pavement with scoured slope protection) in San Fernando, Romblon - still not passable

- San Fernando -Magdiwang Road in Brgy Taclobo, San Fernando, Romblon -washed -out/eroded roadways and collapsed roadside structure.- hardly passable

Update on Restoration Works

- DPWH maintenance workforce augmented by heavy equipment are working overtime to expedite early completion of emergency repair works on the damaged roads and bridges

- Pili detour route along San Fernando-Magdiwang Road is now passable

- Preparation of detour road and construction of temporary Ipil Foot Bridge along Cajidiocan-San Fernando Road is in progress
