STATUS OF IDPs IN BASILAN and SULU
1. The situation in Basilan remains critical due to on-going AFP offensive against Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in the boundary of Tipo-Tipo, Sumisip and Ungkaya Pukan (a new municipality created out of Tipo-Tipo). At around 5:30 AM today, 19 August 2007, the AFP (using 105 - mm howitzer) bombarded ASG positions in said municipalities.
2. Meanwhile, the situation in Sulu remains very fluid as the AFP continues to recon suspected ASG positions in Indanan, Paranga and Maimbung.
3. There has been no changes on the number of IDPs from the number reported yesterday 18 august 2007.
