Philippines: NDCC UPDATE - Flooding in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, 31 July 2010

1. Situation Overview

- Since Thursday 10:00 PM on July 29, 2010, flooding occurred in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao due to the overflowing of Simuay River as a result of intermittent moderate to heavy rains.

- As of 5:00 PM today July 31, 2010, floodwater level remains at ten (10) barangays with 8,200 affected families to the following barangays: 1 ] Buffalo - 1,500; 2) Salimbao - 1,000; 3) Banubo - 600; 4) Katuli - 800; 5) Calsada 1,500; 6) Limbo - 1,500; 7) Gang - 500; 8) Macaguiling - 100-1 9) Mulaog - 500; and 10) Senditan - 200. Some areas are waist-deep underwater in Barangays; Bulalo, Calsada and Katuli.

- No report of casualties was monitored and no major evacuation has taken place. Some 20 families or about 200 individuals have sought temporary refuge using their own vehicles brought to an elevated portion of the national highway in Barangays; Bulalo, Salimbao and Limbo.

- Knee-deep floodwaters at some 200 meters portion of the national highway covering Barangays; Salimbao and Limbo are still causing heavy traffic to all types of vehicles.

- Cloudy weather with high probability of heavy rains is currently prevailing in Sultan Kudarat and in other parts of Maguindanao Province and North Cotabato Province, including the municipalities of Alamada, Libungan, Midsayap and Pigcawayan and in Cotabato City.
