ICC Iligan City (29 October) - The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) has released, today, some 250 sacks of rice in support of the ongoing relief operations for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Lanao del Norte (LDN).
Withdrawn from the National Food Authority (NFA), this city, the rice assistance is intended for the IDP's of LDN towns affected by the atrocities of the lawless MILF group (LMG).
Regional Director Carmelito A. Lupo of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), region 10, said these are distributed thru the local disaster coordinating councils (DCC) of following local government units:
Munai, 100 sacks, because there are more IDPs in the area compared to the other three recipient towns of Pantao Ragat, Tangkal, and Poona Piagapo which are given 50 sacks each.
Lupo, who is also the Executive Officer of the Regional DCC in the region, said this is not the first time that NDCC has released rice assistance to the IDP's of the province.
Last August, NDCC has released 1,500 sacks of rice thru the Provincial DCC of Lanao del Norte, Iligan City DCC and PDCC of Misamis Occidental with 500 sacks each and last September thru the Kauswagan Municipal DCC, 100 sacks.
The OCD is the over-all coordinator, not only for food assistance but also on other aspects of the IDP's needs, Lupo added. (DJR/PIA-10)
