Philippines: Mindanao Displacement Snapshot as of 27 January 2025

Attachments

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), Southwest Monsoon, and tropical cyclones caused widespread displacement in Mindanao, with over 10,000 people displaced by flooding in late 2024, alongside landslides and earthquakes that have displaced nearly 15,000 more in Davao de Oro and Cotabato. Simultaneously, ongoing conflicts in Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, and Cotabato displaced over 12,000 individuals. Generally, displacement incidents in the Bangsamoro Region are due to longstanding issues on land disputes, often entwined with political rivalry and clan feuds. Military operations against Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs), annual flooding and weather disturbances also trigger cyclical displacements, making displacement situation complex and often protracted.
