Two strong offshore earthquakes hit Mindanao in a span of 15 days. A 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the municipality of Sarangani in Davao Occidental on 17 November and a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit the municipality of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur on 02 December. The earthquakes and their succeding aftershocks caused significant displacement of people, structural damage, liquefaction, and landslides. Mindanao Humanitarian Team (MHT) agencies have conducted needs assessment in the affected areas.

Military operations by Government troops against alleged members of Dawlah Islamiya started on 7 December in the municipal boundaries of Pikit, Pagalungan and Datu Montawal in Maguindanao Del Sur. About 1,300 people (268 families) initially evacuated from Pagalungan and GSKP municipalities. Tawi-tawi LGU is validating the status of displaced families due to fire in September. Mindanao Humanitarian Team is monitoring the reported displacement in the Special Geographic Areas (SGA) and Lanao Del Sur due to armed coflict.
