Philippines: Kalinga solon donates goods to typhoon victims

Tabuk, Kalinga (24 October) -- Congressman Manuel S. Agyao of the Loner District of Kalinga, donated several goods as immediate assistance to those severely affected by Typhoon Pepeng in the municipalities of Tabuk, Pinukpuk, Rizal and Lubuagan.

Dr. Caroline Agyao of the Office of the Congressman said that most of the relief assistance were brought to the evacuation centers during the onslaught of the storm serving hundreds of families who were evacuated due to flooding when the typhoon hit the province last Oct. 2, 2009.

The relief assistance were personally donated by the Congressman as his way of helping to ease the burden of those who were devastated by the calamity.

To mitigate any possible health problems that may arise as a result of the disaster, Dr. Agyao said that the Office of the Congressman has also provided free medical consultation and services for the evacuees. Medicines were also given free while referrals were made for those needing hospital treatments.

Among the barangays served are Ammacian of Pinukpuk, Liwan East of Rizal, Tanglag in Lubuagan, Antonio Cana, Sucbot, Laya and Cabaruan of Tabuk.

In preparation for Typhoon Ramil, the Office of the Congressman she said has already purchased and stored relief goods and medicines for those who will be needing help, while vehicles are on standby for emergencies. A generator is also available for the evacuation center.

"The congressman has assured that he will be coming home to personally address immediate concerns and do monitoring especially of major infrastructure projects in province once the typhoon landfalls in Northern Luzon," she said.

Meanwhile, as Typhoon Ramil threatens Northern Luzon, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) has called on all Local Disaster Coordinating Councils to take the needed precautionary measures and to order pre-emptive evacuation in high risk areas. PDCCs were also advised to store foods and basic needs and designate centers for evacuees. (PIA Kalinga)
