Flooding and heightened insecurity in central Mindanao causes displacement and school closures.
On-going rains affected 49,617 families (247,428 people) from 185 barangays (villages) where 30 per cent of families received assistance. At the height of the rains 115 schools closed, affecting 33,979 students.

The strongest global storm of 2013 so far, Typhoon Utor, made landfall in Northern Luzon on 11 August causing damage to 24,658 homes with 112,357 displaced people staying with friends or relatives and 203 people in two evacuation centres. Pre-positioned stocks ensured rapid relief distribution while local government response teams cleared debris.
