Philippines - Flash flood in Mindanao (DG ECHO Partners, DSWD, National Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 11 July 2023)

  • Flash floods occurred on 5 July 2023 in North Cotobato in Mindanao (Sitio Upper Ipuan, Barangay Poblacion in the Municipality of President Roxas), due to continuous intense rain caused by easterly winds. The Department of Social Welfare and Development reports that a total of 1 554 families or 7 542 persons are affected in 12 barangays in North Cotabato. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) is validating the reported fatalities and missing persons.
  • The local government unit is conducting clearing operations, rapid damage and needs assessment, and has provided initial relief assistance to displaced families. The affected and displaced families have further need for tarpaulins and tents for temporary shelter, food, clean water supply, and medical attention for common illnesses among children and infants.
  • DG ECHO partners are monitoring the situation and are coordinating with the local government unit in assessing needs and providing humanitarian assistance.
