What exactly is the Flagship Initiative?
The flagship initiative, spanning three years (2023-2025) in the Philippines as well as in Colombia, Niger and South Sudan, aims to enhance the humanitarian system from unique vantage point to deliver more people-centered aid in support of government response efforts. Under the overall leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator, this flagship project involves local expertise to transform how aid is delivered. It's an opportunity to strengthen community resilience by better connecting humanitarian and development efforts and involve communities as decision-makers and not mere recipients of aid. The flagship initiative fosters collaboration, learning, and a shared purpose among diverse organizations, breaking down existing silos and aid barriers

What is its main objective or purpose?
Communities play a crucial role in our efforts for positive change.
In the Flagship Initiative principles, it's highlighted that communities, being the primary responders in disasters, should actively contribute to decision-making and shaping response systems. They are not just recipients but crucial participants in forming projects and policies that affect them.
Additionally, the Flagship Initiative seeks to improve community involvement, build partnerships across different sectors, and strengthen alliances with local governments.
It also aims to learn from community practices, documenting the most effective approaches to community response and action.
Ultimately, the Flagship Initiative is united in its goal: to improve and strengthen disaster relief and response systems and enhance resilience of communities.
