Philippines: Dengue cases on the rise in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, March 2 (PIA6) – Capiceños are reminded anew to take extra effort against dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

This, after a significant increase in the number of dengue cases was noted in the province of Capiz during the first six morbidity weeks this year.Information Officer Ayr Altavas of the Provincial Health Office disclosed that as of February 13, the PHO has already recorded a 101-percent increase in the number of dengue cases compared to the number of cases during the same period last year.He said that so far, there were already 167 dengue cases recorded here of which 162 are from Capiz and the five others are from other provinces but were admitted in the hospitals here.

“Last year’s cases during the same period was only 83,” said Altavas.He said that most of the patients are age 1 year old to 20 years old and there are also patients who are above 50 years old.The clean-up activities such as the 4 o’clock habit as well as practice of the 4 S strategy remain a top priority in preventing the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

Earlier, the DOH has likewise reminded the public to be on guard against Aedes mosquitoes as these are also carriers of Zika virus. (JCM/JBG/PIA6)
