The Philippines is among the world’s most disaster-prone countries, with about 74 per cent of the population exposed to natural hazards. Each year, around 20 tropical cyclones enter its area of responsibility, with 8 to 9 making landfall triggering floods and landslides. About 60 per cent of the country is mountainous and landslide-prone. Located along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” the country also faces frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Since 1990, over 560 disasters have claimed approximately 70,000 lives. Socioeconomic vulnerabilities including poverty, informal settlements, and high-density urban zones compound the impacts of these recurrent hazards. Priority risks include tropical cyclones, hydro-meteorological flooding, landslides, volcanic eruptions and seismic events
