During the last months in 2006, the Philippines was hit by unusually strong typhoons. The Philippine government had already depleted its own emergency funds for natural emergencies earlier in the year and was, therefore, in particularly great need of additional funds. The Philippines has recived 9.3 musd as response to the emergency.

Most of the funds has been allocated to projects that are not included in the appeal. The UN appeal has only been funded by 7 per cent, which amount to 3.5 musd. It is here decided that Sweden fund the appeal with 5 msek, for two projects managed by UNDP focusing on coordination and emergency prepardness and for Unicef's programme.

Sida decides to support the 2006 Typhoon Appeal for the Philippines with 5 000 000 SEK via the UN Agencies UNDP and Unicef for the period January to December 2007.
