OIC Participates In The Humanitanitarian Efforts Made By The Philippines

The OIC needs-assessment mission currently visiting the Philippines contributed to the efforts being made by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines following the negative impacts of Tropical Storm Washi, by distributing food and non-food items to local affected populations in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan on 29th December 2011 in presence of State authorities and other concerned humanitarian stakeholders.

The distribution which targeted a total of 2,500 families about 15,000 people both in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan and their surrounding areas comprised of water, rice, sardines, soap, sleeping mats, etc. which were handed over both to the needy Moslem and Christian populations in compliance with humanitarian principles.

Members of the OIC delegation also took stock of the considerable needs in terms of housing facing the affected populations following the destruction of their houses by the massive floods which made them homeless.

The OIC mission will leave the Philippines on Friday, 30th December 2011, at the conclusion of its tour.
