Typhoon Nari (locally called 'Santi') has blown away from the Philippines Area of Responsibility (PAR). National authorities say the typhoon affected more than 740,000 people in 13 provinces across northern and central Luzon. Over 96,000 people are displaced with more than 44,000 houses damaged. 13 people have been killed, 7 are still missing.

Nari was the nineteenth storm to hit the Philippines. It tore into the country’s north-east coast late Friday and cut a westward path through the farming regions of Luzon. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), agricultural areas remained inundated, although flood waters are subsiding. A clean-up operation is now underway with military and civilian relief workers, trying to clear roads and restore power lines. Last month, heavy monsoon rains brought on by Typhoon “Usagi” also pounded Luzon, unleashing deadly floods that killed 30.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau issued a warning for Tropical Storm Wipha. Wipha is expected to move northward and not directly hit the Philippines.
