Nutrition Cluster partners participate in UN-OCHA Information Management Workshop for partners in the Yolanda affected areas in Borongan, Eastern Samar Nutrition Cluster partners participated in a two-day Information Management Workshop facilitated by OCHA on April 24-25, 2014 in Borongan, Eastern Samar. Representatives of the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar, municipalities and partner NGOs participated in the training.

The workshop aimed to provide background information on the humanitarian response and technical knowledge in Information Management.

The workshop raised awareness of the cluster approach, discussed the role of global cluster leads and the Humanitarian Country Team. Also, it aimed to sensitize partners to the overarching humanitarian principles that guide aid and development actors in the International Humanitarian System. During the workshop, an overview of the humanitarian response to Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda was presented.

The workshop highlighted the importance of Information Management for the effectiveness of the humanitarian response. Data collection, monitoring, and assessment are critical for coordination and decision-making in the humanitarian response to Yolanda. Group work, role play and exercises with the participants were conducted to better understand the practical application of Information Management. Assessment and assessment planning procedures emphasizing on coordination, logistics, data management and clear objectives were also presented.

Database management and analysis using Excel and mapping using PowerPoint were presented and applied by workshop participants.
