NDRRMC Update: SitRep No 12 re Landslide Incident in Pantukan, Compostela Valley

I. SITUATION OVERVIEW

On or about 3:00 AM of January 5, 2012, a landslide occurred at the hilly portion of Sitio Diat 1 to Diat 700, a gold panning area in Barangay Napnapan, Pantukan, Compostela Valley Province. Said incident occurred due to continuous rains in the recent days. Dozens were buried alive while several shanties/ houses made with light materials were wiped out. Casualties (Tab A)

II. ACTIONS TAKEN (deployed assets by agency)

NDRRMC

  • NDRRMC Executive Director and OCD Administrator USEC Benito T. Ramos together with RDRRMC-XI Dir. Liza R. Mazo and staff extended financial assistance to the families of the dead victims at the Saint Theresa Funeral Homes in Mabini, Compostela Valley and at Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City for the injured victims

DRRMCs

  • MDRRMC Pantukan convened and discussed the following matters:

Shift from SEARCH AND RESCUE TO RETRIEVAL OPERATIONS
Relocation of families living along hazard areas
PhP5,000.00 burial assistance

  • Forced evacuation was conducted by the local government to fames who are staying in landslide area; six houses were initially demolished as of 11 January 2012; continuous demolition of houses as of 12 January 2012

  • Search and retrieval operations and demolition of houses were suspended today (13 January 2012) due to heavy rains in the landslide
