BACKGROUND AND STAITUS OF DISPLACED PERSONS
The continuing armed conflict between the supporters of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III and Royal Malaysian Police has forced the affected Filipino inhabitants in Sabah to be evacuated at Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
As of 28 March 2013, there are a total of 944 families composed of 4,721 persons (2,861 adults, 1,860 children) DPs in BASULTA.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development established a mobile Humanitarian Desk/Team in Tawi-Tawi to complement the DFA-led Rapid Response Teams to address the needs of the incoming DPs.
They also provided food and non-food items amounting to PHP 10.39 million to the DPs. There is also an additional PHP 13.403 million fund augmentation for the ongoing humanitarian operations
They also have pre-identified evacuation centers in anticipation of the influx more DPs. Each of the following facilities can house a maximum of 60 families
