NDRRMC Update Effects of Continous Rain due to Low Pressure Area Embedded Along Intertropical Convergence Zone

Several weather disturbances affected the Philippines within the month of July till August. The Low Pressure Areas (LPAs) were embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting several regions in the country. The affected regions thereat experienced light to heavy rainfalls which caused floodings and landslides.

A. EFFECTS

1 . Incidents Monitored

As of 05 August 2013, a total of nineteen (19) incidents were monitored: 14 floodings and 5 landslides in Regions IV-A, Vi. VII, IX, X, XII and ARMM.

2 . Affected Population

To date, 94,383 families / 471,935 persons were affected by the weather systems.

3 . Casualties

Nineteen (19) casualties were reported as a result of the continuous rains. Seventeen (17) were injured while two (2) were reported dead in the landslide incident in Sitio Cumati. Barangay Lim papa, Zamboanga City with name as follows:
• Agustin Ramos Kaluuyan — male, 13 years old
• Ayer Ramos Kaluuyan — female. 6 years old

4 . Damaged Houses

One hundred twelve (112) houses were affected by different incidents 8 destroyed and 104 damaged.

5 . Cost of Assistance

As of 05 August 2013, a total of PhP9,105,419.88 worth of relief assistance has been provided to those affected.
