TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, August 9 (PIA) – Almost all 73 barangays in the City of Bacoor were affected by the continuous heavy rains brought about by the southwest monsoon that triggered flash floods and affected around 72,000 families in this city.
Out of 73 barangays, 58 were reported to have been severely affected by the 3-day heavy downpour, according to Ms. Khei Sanchez, chief of the Public Information Office-Bacoor and concurrent president of the Cavite Communicators Network (CCN).
The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office headed by Mayor Strike Revilla is continuously sending relief goods up to this hour particularly to the 58 barangays mostly scattered around the coastal areas in the city.
In the town of Rosario, Mr. Buddy Villacruz, chief of the Municipal Information Office reported that 891 families were affected by the onslaught of the southwest monsoon since Monday, August 6.
He added that 16 barangays are affected with four (4) bancas totally damaged. On the other hand, at the riverside (boundary of Rosario and Tanza) sixty (60) families were also affected and were given relief assistance.
Villaruz revealed that as of yesterday afternoon most of the 891 families are sent back to their respective homes as the weather was beginning to improve.
A total 22,281 families received financial assistance from the local government (in the form of rice and other basic needs) since August 1.
In Carmona, Ms. Joan Bawalan, head of the municipal information office revealed that only 16 families all in Barangay Maduya were affected by the southwest monsoon. All were given financial assistance by the local government.
Ms. Bawalan also reported that the local government under the leadership of Mayor Dahlia Loyola is spearheading the campaign to collect any form of assistance either in cash or kind to help fellow Caviteños who were affected by the recent floods in their respective areas.
