Makati council approves Disaster Plan for 2013-2019

By Jerome Carlo R. Paunan

MAKATI CITY, May 30 (PIA) -- The City Council of Makati recently passed City Resolution No. 2013-014 adopting the Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Plan 2013-2019 which was developed through multi-agency and interdepartmental consultations and discussions, as well as a series of mini-workshops spearheaded by the Makati DRRM Office and attended by members of the Makati DRRM Council.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay congratulated the DRRM Office and the DRRM Council members for having completed the plan with dispatch, lauding them for their hard work and dedication to promoting safe and disaster-resilient communities in the city.

“I sincerely thank and commend everyone who contributed their time, knowledge and expertise to complete the DRRM plan of Makati. It is reassuring to know that it is the product of thorough study and critical analysis by major stakeholders, and conforms to current international and global standards in DRRM,” Binay said.

The DRRM Plan is patterned after the National DRRM Act of 2010 or Republic Act 10121 so that local policies and guidelines implemented at the local level would be synchronized with those of regional and national agencies. “Through the DRRM Plan, Makati City would be able to strengthen the four thematic areas in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, which are disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster recovery and rehabilitation,” the mayor said.

The preparation and development of the DRRM Plan entailed a number of mini-thematic cluster workshops that culminated during the MDRRMC Strategic Planning Workshop held from October 15 to 17 last year. Meetings and workshops were conducted after the strategic planning workshop to revise, validate and/or confirm the outputs that would best address the needs of the city, the constituents and stakeholders.
