The Federal Foreign Office has made available 50,000 euro from its humanitarian aid budget for emergency relief to help the victims of the devastating storms in the Philippines.
The funds are to be used to finance the supply of urgently needed food, drinking water, blankets, medicine and emergency accommodation for people, particularly on the main island of Luzon. In addition to this, cargo helicopter flights for the transport of relief goods are to be funded as it is impossible to transport goods by road at present due to the approach of the next typhoon.

Federal Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer expressed the German Government's condolences in a letter to his Philippine counterpart, Alberto Romula: "We, too, hope that the missing will be rescued and that the injured will make a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost friends and relatives and with the many people who were deprived of everything in the wake of the disaster."
