PHILIPPINES: Community and Family Services International (CFSI) is responding to the flooding in Central Mindanao—focusing on the provinces of Maguindanao and North Cotabato, as well as Cotabato City. Continuous torrential rains have led to overflow of major rivers in these areas. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports that, as of 15 June, more than 98,608 families or 506,823 persons have been affected in these areas.
A CFSI Emergency Response Team has been deployed. Rapid assessments of the disaster-affected areas have been carried out in the field. The first shipment of 1,000 Family Support Kits (FSKs) is en route for distribution, starting in Cotabato City. CFSI is working closely with its long-time partners—the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Philippine Airlines (PAL)—for immediate distribution to those displaced by this ongoing disaster.
