I. Situation Overview

Issued on 12 July 2024 at 4:00 AM, the Southwest Monsoon may have brought possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains to the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao

On the same day, heavy rainfall in Datu Montawal (Papagawan), Maguindanao del Sur caused the Pulangi / Rio Grande de Mindanao River to rise and consequently, resulted to flooding in some low-lying barangays. Sustained heavy rains also caused the Tual, Nalus, and Pangi Rivers to overflow and subsequently submerge several houses in Kiamba, Sarangani.

On 12 July 2024, several areas in Zamboanga Peninsula including Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte, experienced flooding due to continuous rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon.

Furthermore, extreme rainfall were also experienced in the flood-prone barangays in LGU of Kalilangan, Bukidnon resulting to flashflood in the area.

On 13 July 2024, Mandaue City and Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental, experienced flooding and landslide incident brought by the effects of Southwest Monsoon.

II. Status of Affected Areas and Population

A total of 170,177 families or 838,231 persons are affected in 400 barangays in Regions VII, IX, X, XII and BARMM (see Annex A).
