DSWD DROMIC Report #17 on the Effects of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) as of 25 July 2024, 6AM

I. Situation Overview

Issued on 07 July 2024 at 4:00 AM, Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms may have brought possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

On 07 July 2024, heavy rainfall brought by the ITCZ caused significant flooding in several municipalities in Maguindanao del Norte.

On the same day, a flooding incident occurred in Zamboanga del Sur due to continuous heavy rains brought also by the presence of ITCZ.

Issued on 09 July 2024 at 4:00 PM, ITCZ is still affecting Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao. Partly cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms may have brought possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms in the aforementioned areas.

On 09 July 2024, the province of Davao Occidental experienced flash flood caused by the said weather disturbance. On the same day at around 6:00 PM, sustained heavy downpour brought by the ITCZ caused flashfloods to low-lying barangays in the provinces of Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, Lanao del Sur, and Sarangani Province.

Further, at around 11:00 PM, heavy rains were also experienced in Iloilo which caused flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in Pototan, Iloilo.

II. Status of Affected Areas and Population

A total of 99,517 families or 497,172 persons are affected in 389 barangays in Regions VI, IX, XI, XII and BARMM (see Annex A).
