I. Situation Overview

Issued on 15 June 2023, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasted that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) may cause possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains to Palawan, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKARGEN, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM.

On 19 June 2023, the Municipalities in Davao del Sur namely Kiblawan, Matanao, Sulop, and Dagos City experienced flashfloods while the Municipality of Santa Cruz experienced flooding due to the effects of the ITCZ.

From 21 June 2023 onwards, reports on the effects of the ITCZ were also reported in Regions VII, IX, X, XII, Caraga, and BARMM. DOST-PAGASA released its last forecast on ITCZ on 27 June 2023 in which it continuously affected Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

II. Status of Affected Areas and Population

A total of 98,877 families or 474,403 persons are affected in 232 barangays in Regions VII, IX, X, XI, XII, Caraga, and BARMM (see Table 1).
