DSWD DROMIC Report #1 on the Effects of Southwest Monsoon enhanced by STS “Egay” as of 23 July 2023, 6PM

I. Situation Overview

Issued on 23 July 2023 at 11:00 AM, the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) “Egay” may bring significant amount of rains in the next three days.

The following areas will receive 50-100 MM of rainfall:

  • On July 23, the Northern Portion of Palawan including Cuyo and Calamian Islands, Antique, and Negros Occidental

  • On July 24, Occidental Mindoro, the Northern Portion of Palawan including Cuyo and Calamian Islands, Western Visayas, and Negros Oriental.

  • On July 25, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindor, the Northern Portion of Palawan, including Cuyo and Calamian Islands, and Western Visayas

Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amount of rainfall for the past several days

II. Status of Affected Areas and Population

A total of 2,353 families or 7,662 persons are affected in six (6) barangays in Negros Occidental (see Table 1).
