DSWD DROMIC Report #1 on the Effects of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in Maguindanao del Norte as of 11 July 2024, 6AM

I. Situation Overview

Issued on 07 July 2024 at 4PM, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affected Mindanao. Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, and possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains may have been experienced over Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

On 07 July 2024, two (2) barangays in Sultan Kudarat experienced heavy rainfall brought by the ITCZ, which led to flooding due to the overflow of the Nuling Creek.

On 09 July 2024 at around 6:00 PM, the municipality of Matanog, Maguindanao Del Sur experienced flash flood caused by ITCZ.

II. Status of Affected Areas and Population

A total of 1,412 families or 3,170 persons are affected in six (6) barangays in Maguindanao del Norte (Table 1).
