DSWD DROMIC Report #1 on the Effects of Easterlies In Central Visayas as of 09 July 2024, 6PM

I. Situation Overview

On 08 July 2024, the effects of Easterlies were reported in several areas in Region VII. The Easterlies brought cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms which have caused possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

At 3:00 PM, on the same day, a landslide incident happened in Brgy. Linao, Minglanilla, Cebu.

At 4:47 PM, the municipality of Bindoy, Negros Oriental experienced heavy rainfall which triggered landslides and flooding in the municipality which lead to significant damage to local infrastructures, residential properties, and casualties.

At around 5:00 PM, a flooding incident occurred in the Brgy. Corazon and Catmondaan, Catmon, Cebu which resulted in the displacement of families.

At 5:45 PM, a vehicle carrying 17 passengers was swept away by a strong river in the Municipality of Liloan, Cebu.

Heavy to intense rains caused a flooding incident was experienced in 12 barangays in Mandaue City which also resulted in the displacement of families.

Moreover, a landslide incident occurred in the municipality of Dalaguete, Cebu and a flooding incident occurred in Brgy. Poblacion of Liloan and Brgy. Basak in Lapu-Lapu City. However, no affected individuals were reported in these areas.

VII II. Status of Affected Areas and Population

A total of 106 families or 419 persons are affected in eight (8) barangays in Central Visayas (see Annex A).
