BAGUIO CITY, Dec. 12 (PIA) -- Dengue cases in the Cordillera region has significantly dropped this year but health authorities remind the public to always stay vigilant.
The Department of Health –Cordillera Communicable Disease Cluster Head Dr. Alexei Marrero reported that from January 1 to November 25, there were 3,684 Dengue cases monitored, a 65 percent decrease compared to the 10,601 cases recorded during the same period last year.
While Dengue cases are down in the region, Marrero reminds the public to remain vigilant as Dengue has already become a year- round health concern.
Always be reminded of the 4S against Dengue (Seek and Destroy possible mosquito breeding sites, self – protection, Say no to indiscriminate fogging and Seek early consultation if any symptoms persists), he added.
Meanwhile, Marrero said that there is no Dengvaxia, the controversial dengue vaccine, allocated in the Cordillera. Thus, no DOH or government- administered Dengue vaccine, he assured.
He said that dengue vaccine will not give severe Dengue and could still give protection especially to people who already experienced the virus. He explained that there are four Dengue virus strains and any person can get affected by each virus, meaning any person can be afflicted with Dengue four times. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
