SITUATION: Mt. Mayon, a 1 1/2-mile
volcano, erupted Thursday. Located 330-km southeast of Manila, the
eruption caused lava at temperatures above 1,000 degrees to ooze 3 1/2
miles down the mountain. As of noon Thursday, over 29,000 residents
in nearby villages evacuated the area and so far there are no reports of
injuries.
