BACOLOD CITY, June 24 (PIA6)—Five persons have died of dengue in Bacolod City from January 1 to June 10, 2017 with 376 cases, records from Bacolod City Health Office show.
On January of this year, two dengue victims died from Brgy. Sum-ag and Brgy. Singcang-Airport; one died on March from Brgy. Granada and two died on May from Brgy. Handumanan and Brgy. 14.
The mortality age range is from eight months to 82 years-old and the median age is 10 years-old.
Brgy. Vista Alegre topped the barangay with the most number of dengue cases at 39, followed by Brgy. Handumanan 36, Brgy. Mansilingan 29, Brgy. Granada 28, Brgy. Mandalagan 26 , Brgy. Alijis 25, Brgy. Estefania 22, Brgy. Villamonte 21, Brgy. Sum-ag 19 and Brgy. Taculing 19.
Dr. Grace Tan of the City Health Office is reminding the public of the 4s strategy in fighting the dreaded disease.
According to the DOH the 4S means Search & destroy mosquito breeding places, use Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation for fevers lasting more than 2 days, and Say yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak.
In 2016, dengue claimed 19 lives in the city with 2,180 cases, but in 2015 there was only one death with only 693 cases.
In the provincial level the, the Provincial Health Office has reported a total of 16 deaths with more than 900 cases from January 1 to June 17 of this year. (JCM/Lljr-PIA6)
