AHA Centre Flash Update #3: Tropical Storm Kai-Tak (Urduja) Philippines

  • Storm surges are expected off Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan FT according to MET Malaysia.

  • Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department has issued a Flash Flood Warning for 4 districts resulting from heavy and thunder showers.

  • All sea recreational activities and sports are advised to cease due to the storm surges.

  • Wind gusts are expected to reach between 40km/h and 50km/h.

  • Northern Aceh region may experience heavy rainfall according to ECMWF forecast model (indicated above). Flash Floods and landslides are of particular concern post heavy rainfall.

  • Heavy rainfall is expected over Brunei and Northern Sarawak which is consistent with the Global Forecast Model.

  • NDRRMC latest situation report (19 Dec 2017) mentioned that:

  • 2 missing with 19 injured;

  • 244,121 families (1,015,817 persons) were affected in 1,669 barangays;

  • 317 areas reported flooding. Of which, floodwaters in 40 areas have already subsided;

  • PHP 543 million (USD 10.7 million) was sustained to national roads;

  • PHP 3 million (USD 59,460) was sustained to agricultural crops;

  • PHP 42 million (~ USD 0.82 million) was provided as assistance by Department of Social Welfare and Development.
