197 LAWA and BINHI beneficiaries in Masbate receive cash-for-work from DSWD-Bicol FO

A total of 197 partner-beneficiaries of Projects LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) and BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) receive their cash-for-training and -work (CFT/W) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Field Office-5 (Bicol) on Tuesday (July 16).

Through the agency’s Bicol Field Office, the partner-beneficiaries from 10 barangays in Batuan, Province of Masbate, were provided with Php7,900 cash assistance, in exchange for participating in the 20 day-CFT/W modalities of the program.

Projects LAWA and BINHI are designed to maintain agricultural productivity during dry periods and to manage excess water during periods of heavy rainfall associated with the La Niña. These are among the innovations in the DSWD, under the leadership of Secretary Rex Gatchalian, that focus on mitigating the impacts of food insecurity and water scarcity caused by the El Niño while preparing for the potential effects of the cold event.
