Since June the 24th, TSF has been intervening in Peru, after the earthhquake that occurred in the southern part of the country. There, TSF's team co-operates with the Peruvian Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross. The team intervened first in Arequipa, at the heart of the zone stuck by the disaster. Then our five logisticians went to Polobaya with 12 Satphones and one GAN (Global Area Network). The situation there was dramatic : more than 3500 people (among which 600 children) were living in temporary shelters whereas the altitude is 3500 m and the temperature below zero at night. The team decided then not only to offer communications but they also bought 150 blankets for the children. TSF's operation in Peru appear different to their previous operations of humanitarian telephony : the people call their relatives to tell them that they are alive but don't ask them for any help. They know that their families in the surrounding countries are as poor as they are !
