NATIONAL CONTEXT

  • In early March, the Government of Peru issued a sixty-day extension of the State of Emergency declared in the province of Zarumilla, Tumbes, northern border of Peru. National Police, with the support of the Armed Forces, will continue to perform control and surveillance duties to maintain control of the internal order until 11 May.
  • Since 15 March, the border complex of Santa Rosa in Peru, mandatory stop for those entering or exiting the country regularly, and administered by the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT, by its Spanish acronym) and Chacalluta, its counterpart in Chile, implemented a new and continuous schedule of attention and increased the immigration control personnel aiming to promote a more efficient transit in the southern border with Chile.
  • On 11 April, Migration and National Security authorities of Peru, Ecuador and Paraguay subscribed to an agreement to create the Migration Alert Network. The agreement establishes the basis for a collaborative mechanism to strengthen security and fight transnational crime at national, regional and transnational levels.
  • On 16 April, The National Superintendence of Migration (SNM, by its acronym in Spanish) opened the Tripartite Border Control Post in Tacna, to register entries and exits of Peruvians and citizens of other nationalities on the triple border between Peru, Chile and Bolivia. The Tripartite Post will implement surveillance actions and immigration control tasks in coordination with the National Police of Peru and other entities.
