Since the beginning of the year, parts of Peru have been impacted by heavy rain, resulting in floods and landslides that have caused casualties and damage.
According to Plan International and media reports, at least 52 people have died and more than 85 000 people have been affected. The most heavily impacted administrative divisions are Piura (where 12 000 people have been displaced), Arequipa, Tumbes, Loreto, Amazonas, Huánuco, Ucayali, and Junín.
For the next two days, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected across most of the country, particularly over central‑eastern Peru. Central and northern regions are under an orange alert for heavy rain.
