Since the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, heavy rainfall is affecting parts of the country, causing floods, triggering landslides and resulting in damage.

The National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) of Peru reports almost 5,000 affected people and more than 1,300 damaged houses in the Loreto Department, northern Peru following the overflows of several rivers. Flood events have been also recorded in the Rupa Rupa District, Huanuco Department, central Peru, where 70 people have been affected as well as 42 houses.

Several districts in the Loreto Department are under a State of Emergency until 29 February. For the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is expected across the affected departments.
