Heavy rainfall has been affecting Peru since January, causing landslides and flooding that have resulted in casualties, affected populations and damage.
According to UNICEF, as of 26 February, at least seven people died and 57,225 people have been affected, including 17,167 children. In addition, 27,486 houses, 200 bridges, 79 classrooms and 14 health centres have been damaged or destroyed by landslides or flooding across 20 regions in Peru, with Huancavelica as the worst affected.
A state of emergency has been declared on 20 February
Over the next 72 hours, more rainfall is forecast over Peru. Particularly the central Andes will experience heavy rainfall.
