Peru - Floods and landslides (SENHAMI, INDECI, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 14 March 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting southern Peru, in particular the Madre de Dios and the Apurímac departments since 10 March, causing floods, flash floods and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • The National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) and media report, as of 14 March, one fatality and six still missing persons across the Chalhuanca district, Apurimac department. In addition, media also report 85 evacuated people, nearly 100 damaged buildings, and a total of approximately 270 affected people across the Madre de Dios department, where the most affected cities and towns are Puerto Maldonado, Laberinto, and Las Piedras.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is forecast over most of the country.
