An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 M at a depth of 53.5 km occurred on 15 June at 16.35 UTC (at 11.35 local time) in the sea at 9.5 km from the western coast of central-western Peru. The epicentre was located approximately 19 km south-west of Callao city, and about 25 km in the Lima metropolitan area, and south-west of the capital, Lima city, in Lima province.
USGS PAGER estimates that 7,200 people were exposed to moderate shaking.
According to media reports, as of 15 June, one person died in northern Lima city, and five have been injured, several roads and buildings have been damaged, public transportation has been suspended, and multiple landslides occurred along one main highway in Miraflores district of the Lima province.
